Peep-To-Meet: Nikki Pryce

Sometimes The Person You Need To Meet, Will Meet You

How We Met:

We had just finished wrapping up the panel discussion at the annual SheTek Conference when we met. The SheTek Conference was an annual event held in New York to highlight and educate women in the technology and entertainment field through open dialogue and discussion.

After I completely took over the event’s step-and-repeat by snapping over a million-and-one different selfie poses (you all know how hard it is to capture that one photo that will take your IG likes up a notch), I searched for a secluded area to do something that some of you will probably judge me for- switch out of my heels into my flats.

I know, I know but honestly my feet were beginning to feel like Kunta Kinte after his foot got cut off and I just couldn’t do it any longer.

After finding a good spot- slightly to the right of a clothing rack belonging to a boutique sponsor and directly behind a standard 6’ long table- I began the shoe switching process.

Wow, this was such a great event,” said a voice from out of nowhere.

Oh crap, they got me!

Honestly, I can’t remember what the next few words were from this mysterious voice from the sky because all I could think of in that moment was that I had been caught, exposed, brought forth before to the heel-slaying goddess committee, which consists of Beyoncé, JLo and Rihanna, to await arraignment for my treasonous act. Move fast was the plan of action at that point.

I sat up and turned to introduce myself to the woman from which the voice belonged to and she, in turn, did the same.

Hi, I’m Nikkie!”

We sat there for a good 30/40 minutes, laughing and talking about everything from the conference, to building a brand, to women supporting one another, to Nikkie’s new book “Dreamers, Take Action” that she had recently released. She was funny, her aura was organic, and she was rocking a natural short cut that made me shout a few Yassses in my head with extra exclamations.

We talked so much that I forgot that I had another engagement that I needed to be at at that exact time. But I stayed. I can’t tell you what it was, but for some reason I felt that I was meant to meet Nikkie that day. That there was a reason beyond my understanding for why she was the last person that I spoke to before I left.

I didn’t know at the time, but it wasn’t until the end of our conversation that I was able to find out exactly what that reason was.

What’s your name on social media? I’m going to follow you right now.”

I spelled my Instagram handle out for her and she gasped.

“Wait, you’re Sasha Nycole!” she exclaimed in a shocking awe. “You’re going to think this is so crazy but I have to show you something.”

I curiously waited as she scrolled through her iPhone photo album. Up, up, then back down and then up again.

It turns out, that a few weeks before the conference, Nikkie was searching through social media for a host to curate her upcoming book launch event. She told me that through a hashtag, she discovered my Instagram profile, took a screenshot of it and said to herself that I looked like the perfect person to host her upcoming event.

Fast forward to the day of the conference and here we are!

I think it’s safe to say that in that moment, we both were surprisingly shocked, but not because of Nikkie’s discovery.

You see, apart from sharing a mutual passion for hosting, Nikkie and I also share a strong sense of faith. We understand that in walking by faith and having a close relationship with God, there is no such thing as “coincidence.” Our meeting was already pre-planned and orchestrated by The Big Man himself.

Nikkie went on to tell me that she was debating whether to reach out to me or another possible candidate to host her event, but that after meeting me in person, she was sure that without a doubt I was going to be the one to host her book launch.

Now, what if I was completely stand off-ish or had a bad attitude? I can’t say for certain, but I could almost guarantee you that Nikkie wouldn’t have selected me to host her event yet alone even acknowledged my existence.

What meeting Nikkie further confirmed for me, was that sometimes you have no idea who God is going to place in your path. They may come at the start of your day or towards the very end, but you have to always make sure to give each person your very best because you never know what door or opportunity they might open for you.

I can honestly say that since meeting Nikkie, she has remained the same charismatic, passionately driven person that she was when we first met. We continue to support and encourage one another and since reading her book, I am confident that she is going to change many lives through her words of insight.
